(Editor's Note: I bumped into an acquaintance in a department store while shopping for Christmas gifts a couple of weeks ago, and he said that for him, Christmas had officially arrived when he heard "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" playing on our radio station. For me, the song was too painful to hear in the years following John's murder, but I can finally listen to it without getting that hollow feeling in the pit of my stomach. It's definitely a classic.)

Reading your remembrances it is heartening to see that even after all this time his voice cannot be silenced, even through death. I was not fortunate enough to experience his influence first hand (I was only 4 when John died)but thanks to the many wonderful musicians who perform his music live with a sincerity and respect that is astounding I believe one of the most important parts of John Lennons life carries on. comment: I am writing today just as I did a year ago on this day, so sad still. Nineteen years ago! Can you believe it? Over these past few years I have collected many books by and about John and have gotten to know the man so much better - and then when December 8th roles around I get that jab of pain in my gut. I was 25 when John was killed, so I grew up with the Beatles. Today I listened to the last interview he gave (it's on CD) and will watch the video Imagine at home - these are things I do every year today. I miss John, and the world is a lesser place without him. Was Chapman just a crazed fan, or was there a lot more to his terrible deed? From what I have read I'd have to conclude: I just don't know. But it's a wicked world that assassinates its poets, and that thought chills my heart. God Bless, John!

comment: Tommorrow is the 19th Anniversary of John's death. John, we will never forget you and your music. Its up to all of us to remember John and his music, and never let Mark David Chapman out of prison for the rest of his life.

I remembered when I did get the news of John's death. I was 14 years old and just woke up in the morning and my Mum told me the sad news. She originally thought of not telling the news, but since I turned on the telly and saw CNN's continious coverage of John's passing, she showed me the headlines. She thought I would be very upset and cry because John was and still is my favorite musician. I didn't act that way. I was shocked and shattered, but I realized that I had to take the news in.

Many things still pop in my mind about John. What would his opinion be on making music videos; the Internet; etc etc etc. Also...what I think about the most is that John was starting to make the best music of his whole life and it ended so tragically.

One last thing: I imagine that when John sees Paul again... he will say to him "What were you thinking giving the rights to the Beatles songs to Michael Jackson??"
