Yoko To Perform at Walker Art Center

Walker Art Center - Yes Yoko Ono Background

YES Yoko Ono, which premiered in New York City at the Japan Society, moves to Minneapolis, Minnesota in March (March 10-June 17) to the Walker Art Center.

This large-scale, multimedia retrospective - the first mounted in North America since 1971 - explores the part Yoko played in bringing East Asian metaphysical thought to the avant-garde movement of the late 1950s and 1960s, and shows her as a pivotal artist in the postwar avant-garde.

The Yes Yoko Ono exhibit features approximately 125 works in all media, including music, photography, films, objects and installations.  One of Yoko's most stunning works, the all-white chessboard tables, Play It By Trust, will be an interactive piece.

Skywriting, citywide billboard advertising, and other forms of public art that Yoko pioneered may be planned to coincide with the exhibition.

Opening weekend of the Yes exhibit will be highlighted by a Late Night After Hours Preview Party on March 9, 2001 from 9PM to Midnight.  Visitors will enjoy an evening of films, Fluxus-inspired entertainment, Art Lab activities and IN Flux, The Martini  of the Month.
