Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States and a delegate from Georgia, was honored at the Democratic Convention in Los Angeles on Monday (August 14) as their senior statesman.

Throughout the filmed tribute to the former president, John Lennon's "Imagine" was played, a fitting tribute, since Jimmy and wife, Rosalynn Carter have dedicated their lives to helping all the people, share all the world.

Their Carter Center in Atlanta is dedicated to helping keep peace around the world, aiding poor countries that need medical supplies and finding solutions to human rights problems that other agencies have not tackled. The Carters have also been extremely active in the Habitat for Humanity organization, pitching in with hammers and saws to build houses for people who couldn't otherwise afford decent housing.

66-year-old Jimmy Carter, more than any other ex-president, has dedicated his life to true public service.

You may say he's a dreamer..but he's not the only one.

(Editor's Note: The Lenono-Carter connection includes John and Yoko meeting Jimmy Carter in the mid-70's and there's a picture of that meeting. Also, I seem to recall a meeting between Yoko and Carter which was mentioned in an issue of the paper IK! If I can dig these items up, I'll add them to this story.)
