John's Postcards to Aunt Mimi
And her comments!
From John in Japan: "Mimi: Are up in mountains, really very nice.
Love John, Yoko and Sean."
Aunt Mimi: "You'd think he could have written a bit more than that,
wouldn't you?"
From John in Japan: "Mimi: Still up in mountains. Here is the number
in case you wanna givus a call. Love Da-da, mom-ma and Sean-chan."
Aunt Mimi: "That really is typical of him. He gives me some telephone
number in the middle of the Japanese mountains, I don't know where, and
expects me to call him. I don't know what time it will be there, whether
he'll be in or anything. If he wants to talk to me, he can jolly well
call me!"
Aunt Mimi from 1979: "He rings up and announces, 'Hi, it's Father Christmas
here.' He's the same old jokey John. He really seems much more settled and
happy now than he used to be. He'll be doing something, just you wait and
see, something that will surprise everyone. I only hope he doesn't go
pouncing on stage anymore. He's nearly 40 now and if he went back on stage
he'd be doing exactly what he was doing at 19. You must go on. When he
phones now he wants to talk about Sean about when he was a little boy himself.
When he phoned the other night, he was talking about the time I wrapped him
in a blanket because it was cold and I brought him downstairs. He can't
have been more than five then. He just amazes me with the things he remembers."
