From the Associated Press:

UMM EL-FAHM, Israel (AP) - Reflecting her message of peace through art, Yoko Ono released white doves to mark the opening of her exhibit in an Arab town in northern Israel. A mix of Israeli artists, local Arab townspeople and diplomats made their way through Ono's conceptual exhibit, "Open Window." It features linen canvases painted with single words such as "Imagine" and "Feel." "I feel that through art we can all get together and communicate and express our love to each other and we can change the world," Ono, the 66-year-old widow of John Lennon, said Saturday. Former Prime Minister Shimon Peres said he was pleased to see such a high-profile exhibit in the town recently marked by clashes between Israeli Arabs and police. "I think it is a great day in Israel to see Umm el-Fahm in a different light - not in a light of misunderstanding but of renewed understanding," he said.

Yoko-CNN Photo JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Yoko Ono still wants us to imagine. The widow of former Beatle John Lennon invoked memories of her late husband's most famous song for a new exhibit. Ono scribbled "Imagine," the title John Lennon's best-known solo work, on a white bookmark and tied it to a branch of a wishing tree Thursday at the Israel Museum. The tree is part of her multimedia exhibit, "Have You Seen the Horizon Lately?," which opens this weekend. Ono, 66, said she hopes the tree will be covered with wishes from visitors. "My wish is for world peace. 'Imagine' ... is a song of world peace," she said.

Ono is in Israel for several days for the unveiling of her exhibit in Jerusalem and a second exhibit in the Arab town of Umm el-Fahm in northern Israel. The exhibits span works from four decades.

The following news article appeared on Yahoo Entertainment News:

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono unveiled a new art show on Thursday that asks visitors to ``dial for peace'' in Jerusalem. A white telephone with the instructions ``Telephone peace for Jerusalem YO 1999'' was one of the works at the avant-garde artist's ``Have You Seen the Horizon Lately'' exhibition at the Israel Museum.

Other works featured include a handless watch, a chess set painted only in white and a toilet hidden inside a glass maze.

``I really think that we in the peace industry need to unify like those in the war industry,'' Ono said. The Israel Museum, where the exhibit opens to the public on Friday, is the last stop on a five-city tour by Ono.

YOKO IN ISRAEL..

David Brinn reported in an Israeli online newspaper on November 2 that Yoko was planning a trip to Israel as the guest of an art gallery in Umm el-Fahm. Yoko was reportedly opening an exhibition of local artists along with her own work.

There apparently was some confusion in the area newspapers as to what city she would actually visit, but a definite showing one-woman show - "Have You Seen the Horizon Lately?" was set to open November 27, 1999 at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem We're trying to find out if there are any other exhibits in any other cities in that region.

The exhibit in Jerusalem will feature Yoko's Half-A-Room, Ceiling Painting, Portrait of Nora and Wish Tree.

Richard Joly at OnoWeb has more details and has promised more information coming soon from an Israeli journalist.

As always, IK! would be interested in hearing from anyone in the area who can give us a review of Yoko's exhibits and her appearances in Israel. Please contact us at mewing@up.net

(UPDATE: The "20/20" Online schedule does not show a Julian interview for December 2. We'll keep checking on this and let you know if or when we learn more information.)

We've been getting reports that Julian will appear on the ABC Television newsmagazine "20/20"..but so far, each time he's been rumored as a scheduled interview, the segment has not aired. The latest info we have (Thanks to Richard Joly) is that the Julian segment will air December 2. Hmmm. I have a hard enough time remembering to watch something that I've known for weeks is coming on at a certain time, but this on-again, off-again stuff drives me wacko!

Imagine LP Cover Parlophone Records announced Tuesday, November 9, 1999 that the label plans to re-release John Lennon's "Imagine" song on December 13. The song is from the "Imagine" LP which was released in the United States in 1971. "Imagine" was voted the second-best song of the millennium in a music poll in Great Britain.

The record will also feature two other John Lennon activism songs - 'Happy Xmas (War is Over)' and 'Give Peace a Chance' (his first solo hit in the Summer of 1969). 'Imagine', the title track of his highly acclaimed album is John's most famous solo work and is also featured in a new hour-long film containing previously unreleased footage of John at work in his Ascot home recording studio due to be released next year.

'Gimme Some Truth' has been culled from hundreds of hours of 16mm film shot while John was recording the 1971 album 'Imagine'. Some of the footage is already well known such as the clip of John playing 'Imagine' on a white grand piano with Yoko in attendance, but most of the footage has been in Yoko's files until recently.

The re-release of "Imagine" this December will be the song's fourth British outing; it was released originally in 1975, when it reached number six, it was released again following John's murder in December 1980 and immediately made number one. Then it was released after John's third number one, 'Woman'. At Christmas 1988 the track was released again as a double-A-side with 'Happy Xmas' but didn't make the top forty.

Some people are speculating that "Imagine" will be the first Number One hit of the New Millennium. That would be appropriate.

Channel 4 TV and the British music store HMV surveyed over 600,000 people and they voted the Beatles as best band ever. The B's were followed by Queen, the Rolling Stones, U2 and Oasis. The best album was "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." John Lennon was named the Best Songwriter, followed closely by his Beatle songwriting partner, Paul McCartney.

(The following is a press release received in the IK! mailbox today. Please note that I tried to test this but it was taking too long to download the applet. In fact, a statement on the opening page informs visitors that there are more than 1500 categories to be downloaded and the "chat" cannot start until all categories have successfully downloaded - I gave up after waiting over 10 minutes for 500 to come in.)

Press Release - John Lennon Artificial Intelligence Project

(Washington, D.C. - 21 October 1999) -- Triumph PC ONLINE has introduced "The John Lennon Artificial Intelligence Project" (JLAIP) as the first AI-based clone of the late Beatle. "The JLAIP will allow anyone with a Java-supported webbrowser and access to the Web to converse online with an interactive analogue of John Lennon," stated David Maggin, Founder of Triumph PC ONLINE. "Artificial Intelligence will be at the forefront of the next generation of Internet and Web technologies. We believe our current work with the JLAIP is only at the 'horse and buggy' stage. The Project's sophistication is likely to increase by orders of magnitude in the coming months. It is our sincere hope (and belief) that, as the robot's experience advances, a reasonable (and believeable) facsimile of Lennon's personality will emerge."

The JLAIP is programmed with many of the late Beatle's own words and constantly 'learns' from the input it receives from visitors. The basic code is based on Dr. Richard S. Wallace's state-of-the-art A.L.I.C.E. chatbot (www.alicebot.org). The JLAIP homepage can be found at: http://www.triumphpc.com/john-lennon/
