Yoko -
Thank you so much for reminding us to Come Together and
Give Peace a Chance at the Grammy Awards. As an
admirer of you and John for as long as I can remember, I
was touched by your emotion during your speech. We
Dreamers of Peace in the world appreciate you and your
work.
Joining wishes with you across the miles,
Mary Gron
Hello,
I have suddenly found myself in a position to actually do
something that
might help promote world peace. It is a project
larger than I am and Yoko
Ono has always been in my mind as a part of this.
I was a producer on a film about apartheid in South
Africa, "Ubuntu's
Wounds." This film was nominated for a student Oscar
last year, won a number
of film festivals and was bought by HBO. In attending
those film festivals,
I met a number of third-world filmmakers who have made
astonishing films
which I believe Americans need to see. I believe that in
these troubled
times, we need to understand exactly what life is like
"out there." Yet,
while we send out a relentless flood of films and
television about our
supposed lifestyle - mansions in Malibu, shooting each
other constantly -
very little comes back to us. Not only that but we show
such insensitivity
to the lives other people lead - we send the Food Channel
to Ethiopia and
provide them with satellite dishes so they can watch it!
I went to Cannes this year and, as I was driving down from
Paris, it
occurred to me that I had to go to the Kodak Pavilion and
convince them to
donate 35mm film to deserving disenfranchised filmmakers
so that they can
make the quality of their films more compatible with what
American
distributors are used to buying. To my surprise, they not
only agreed but
asked that my non-profit organization supervise that
distribution. They have
agreed to do this for 15-20 films.
I then called Panavision, who agreed to supply cameras (if
available) and
also raised the issue of qualified operators. At the
moment I am putting
together a proposal for training programs that IATSE
International has
agreed to recommend to its various autonomous chapters.
Through partnerships with LeBrocquy/Fraser (whose film
"Osama" won two
awards at Cannes and has been bought by UA for American
distribution) and
FilmClix.com (a downloadable video rental service for
foreign films set to
launch on August 1st), I have managed to identify a number
of projects which
would enlighten and entertain American audiences while
also going some
distance toward bridging the gap between those two worlds.
The first such project is an omnibus project called
"Five Worlds" to be shot
in Iran, Afghanistan, Palestine, Malaysia and Indonesia.
It will consist of
five 20-minute stories by award-winning native directors,
each illustrating
the effects that recent political and social events have
had on the people
of that country. We expect to begin shooting in October.
We intend to begin pre-production in September on our
second project,
"Almayer's Folly." This is an adaptation of
Joseph Conrad's first novel, to
be shot in Borneo and starring Harvey Keitel as a Dutch
colonialist raping
both the people and the land at the turn of the 20th
Century. The script is
astonishing. It pains me to admit it - having written a
couple dozen scripts
myself - but this is by far the best script I have ever
read. Not only is it
lyrical and visually eloquent but it tells the story of
colonialism from the
standpoint of the natives. Harvey's character is acted
upon rather than the
protagonist.
We believe that people throughout the world are the same
with the same basic
needs and desires. It is surprising to me that, with all
that digging for
oil, no one ever seems to dig for water. It is not that
the countries of the
Middle East have no water, it is that the water is not
easily accessible.
Rather than spending billions on war, we would like to see
some research
done into accessing that water. Think about it for a
moment: How would it be
to not be able to take a shower when you wanted a shower -
let alone, a dip
in the pool? Through this means, we can increase the
standard of living and
the whole world would become part of our marketplace,
increasing jobs
worldwide. More trees and plants on this planet will
repair the ozone layer,
limit global warming.
I am certain that you realize that our government is
already thinking
globally. We would like to propose an alternative to
previous attempts at
world domination which will benefit all humanity and may
even allow us to be
the good guys once again. Is there any way that Ms.
Ono might be interested
in being involved with all this?
By the way, I'm in Paw Paw, Michigan, and a 35-year friend
of Leni Sinclair.
Sincerely,
Deborah
Good luck with the event
peace and best wishes

I just love this idea .. i think
that there needs to be more of this ...
ALL THE PEOPLE loving and
getting together ... and sharing their feelings of love and
not hate.
I have two beautiful daughters and I just
hope that they will teach others to love as they love ... my
daughters are very kind souls .. they always try to help and
give to others without asking anything but maybe a hug in
return .. i think we need more of this in our world. My daughters are ages 6 and 3.
I also have a 16 year old sister that does the same.
I try to do as much as i possibly can for all others no
matter the situation .. not trying to boast .. i just would
like to see others doing the same. I believe that if
everyone would do this that our world would be a better
place for our future and the future of the children and
their children.
I hope that you all will live
with nothing but peace and love in your hearts ...
Bless you all ..
Danielle
When I first read this Peace Event For
John Lennon by Yoko Ono, I was
impressed by the importance of
reaching out to others as a true
gesture
of peace.
Circumstances prevented me from
Visiting In Peace other countries and
peoples. So I focused on the Home In
Peace segment and decided to find pen
pals around the world. My first
attempts were depressing because
people wanted to write to me in hopes
I would sponsor their visit to the
USA, something that was beyond my
resources.
Since I am a librarian, books are an
important value in my life. I
started contacting people in other
countries through the BookCrossing
website, www.BookCrossing.com,
and sending books to people who want
them. I have already sent books to
people in nine different countries:
Canada, England, Portugal, Finland,
Italy, Romania, Iran, Malaysia, and
New Zealand.
I have made wonderful friends and
really connected with many people. I
have bought a world map and am now
going to start marking the places my
books have gone and where I have
connected with wonderful readers. Then
I can look at this map and Imagine all
the people in the world holding
hands, hugging each other, and living
life in peace. The gift of books
has been the way I have been able to
make this real for myself.

Hello, this is a message of Peace and Love on this xmas day, going out to
Ono Yoko sama, and all her friends, family and supporters.
I just wanna say that i have been singing "War is Over" with
many many junior high kids in Hamada in the past few weeks, at the
suggestion of 2 of my JTE's. (I am working as and ALT for the JET
Programme.) We also have sung many other Beatles songs, and of course,
"Imagine".
I feel proud and happy to be sharing John and Yoko's messages with these
children.
Blessings and respect,
Chris P. Madden
Happy Xmas!

Hi there. This
message is especially for Ono
Yoko-sama, but also to everyone who is
associated with your wonderful work
for peace.
Joyful Solstice!
I hope you are warm and healthy and
happy and have loving friends and
family around you on Sunday, our
shortest day, longest nite of the
year. Maybe have your longest soak in
an onsen that night. Or your longest
back massage, your
longest sing-along, longest
meditation...
Whatever you do, do it with love.
I am sending you peace from Hamada-shi,
Shimane-ken,

John already knew
that Peace not only had a chance,
it is already here
amongst us for those of us who are
ready to join in.
One World was not something only to be
imagined, it is already
a reality waiting to be
discovered by us when we are ready to
find it.
Thank you for your dream John and
Yoko. May we join you in this
dream, and may its reality become our
reality.

Hi Yoko,
I'm just sitting in the school and
learning about wars and my
"friends" are laughing when
peoples talk about killing, so I must
thing about greatness of peace. And I
think that everybody must thank you
for that You do for the peace.
Thank You Yoko!

P.S. I'm sorry for mistakes in text, 'cos
I'm only 13.
Unfortunately I was not born to
experience the peace and love that John brought to the world,
while he was still here to experience it himself, but if he
were here to see, I think he would see it the way I do, that
even though there are wars all around us,that all of the chaos
makes us feel that there is no hope.
That isn't at all true, because John has touched so many lives
that even though we can't save the world, all the lives he has
touched will forever "give Peace a chance."
Even though I wasn't able to meet John, I can feel inside exactly what he
was saying!!!!
I love you John, thank you for giving Peace a chance!

As I sit here, I am disturbed, as yesterday the US Congress said they
wanted a bigger military! Last month sometime, the head of the
selective service said he would begin filling the staff roles of the
service, incase the draft was reinstated!
A few prior months to that, the government was talking about reinstating
the draft. I believe it is coming and for what? Are the people in
our government planning a larger scale invasion of the Middle
East?
They talked before about an invasion of Iran! Whats going to
happen next? Perhaps next year!
America needs to mind its own business! Leave people of draft age
alone! Keep our jobs here in America and keep our people working!
Bush wants to send 85 million in american dollars to help rebuild Iraq,
as our soldiers still die there everyday? Who is crazy! Our
leaders talk openly of using nuclear weapons now, like the end
results would be nothing! It seems they want WAR!

Dear
John,
Can you hear us crying here for you,
in this world you left behind?
This beautiful, awful world still run
by madmen who are killing lives and
souls with hatred, greed and weapons?
We miss you terribly on this 23rd
anniversary of your murder. We
are crying--for us, for our children,
for our world, for all peoples, and
for the loss of you and
George...beautiful souls not made for
this world.
Thank you for the
music you left behind to guide us,
inspire us, and comfort us until we
meet with you in the Land of Peace.
Peace and Love,
Karen
Let's
all pray for peace! Peace on earth
and Love for all the people! We miss
you John! We all shine on!
Dawn
