I wanted to share my story of the Sean concert I went to last night (October 10, 1998) at Illinois State University in Normal.

Sean was the "special guest" with Lenny Kravitz, and my two friends and I had eighth row/center seats! Sean was dressed in grey pants and a t-shirt that said "Sex and Snow" (?), and the stage was decorated with really cool pictures of Hindu gods.

Sean Lennon I think the first song was a new one because I didn't recognize it, and then they sang "Mystery Juice," which was awesome. After that, he talked to the audience for a little while, saying this was the first time he had been to ISU, and that he was really psyched to be here. He asked us if we had any homework over the weekend, and then suggested that we join a rock band if we didn't want to worry about homework anymore :)

He played a couple of other new songs, as well as one instrumental. The other "Into the Sun" tracks were "Queue," "Home" and "Spaceship." I was sort of disappointed that he didn't sing "Into the Sun" or "Two Fine Lovers," but he sounded so wonderful! One of my favorite parts was when he and Ozamatli did a rap together and Yuka was jumping up and down behind her keyboards. Before he left, he told us all to go check out his album because "it's the bomb," and to take a look at his "cool orange t-shirts."

As soon as Sean left the stage, my friends and I went out back to wait by the tour buses on the chance that we might get to see him. We only had to wait 15 minutes or so before he and Yuka came walking out. When we saw him coming, we said hi and asked if we could take some pictures with him. He said, "Sure, let me come over there." We had our pictures taken and he signed autographs for my friends and I. He was incredibly friendly to us and the other people waiting, but Yuka was sort of quiet. She just shook a few hands and went on into the bus.

Sean asked everyone's name and we talked to him about where the tour was headed next and about his album. He definitely has quite an interest in t-shirts because he asked one girl what hers said. One of my friends is a huge fan of Yoko Ono, so he asked Sean if he would ever work on another album with his mother. Sean said that he really would like to, but that he was focusing all of his energy on his solo career right now. He said that Yoko is such a "deep" artist that she requires 120% of the energy of everyone that she works with. He also said that his favorite song of his mother's is "Revelations" because the lyrics are so important to him, and they help him get through his days.

Sean eventually went to his bus to relax, but my friends and I are still in disbelief that we actually met and had the opportunity to speak with him! The whole experience was wonderful.

Heather :)
