I live near San Jose (Cupertino), and my friend and I were planning to go to San Francisco yesterday (10/9/99). Upon reading that Cibo Matto would be in town, I insisted that we take a detour to Slim's, where they would be playing a 9:00 concert. At about quarter to 6, we got there and could hear them rehearsing from across the street. We went around the back of the building, hoping there was maybe a window where we could get a good view of them. To my surprise, there was a wide-open door, opened directly to the stage, and I could see Sean standing RIGHT THERE closest to me. I had come with "Into the Sun" and a pen in my hand, and listened for nearly two hours as they rehearsed. I'd never heard any of the songs before, but I would love to buy the disc now, since I've heard them rehearsing a few of the songs. (They spent about 15 minutes each on three-part harmonies of the lines "...words inside a shell..." and "...I love you, you love me..."). Miho has an EXCELLENT voice. At about 7:10, they broke and went downstairs. At 7:20, one of the stage hands, seeing Sean's disc in my hand, asked if I would like Sean to come up and autograph it for me. Naturally, I said yes, and within minutes, Sean was there. I said (trembling in my boots, no doubt), "Sean, I'd be pleased if you could sign this for me." He said pleasantly, "sure." He signed it, "Sean Lennon. '99 S.F.". I said, "My name is Jon Paul," he said, "hello," and we shook hands. I wished him a happy birthday as I left. I couldn't stay for the concert (my parents wanted me home half an hour earlier). That's my story. |
